Hello, Beautiful, Empowered One!

Morgan Reece A Smarter Mom

Welcome to A Smarter Mom, where we help you find simple, proven solutions to the challenges of life.

My name is Morgan Reece. I love connecting busy moms with Biblical, commonsense resources to make life better. But my passion is to provide lasting hope by encouraging them to transform their thinking.

Did I mention how excited I am that you are here?

I don't know what brought you. You may have read my post on Jennifer Smith's Unveiled Wife. Maybe you are a friend from my time in Southern California and the "Royal Ladies Retreat: Amid Evil Times" conferences, where hundreds would gather to renew our zeal for Christ. Perhaps you just stumbled in and are wondering if there's any reason you should stick around. Well, I hope you DO stick around for a little bit... I'll bet we share a lot in common.

No matter what season of life we are in, each of us face three temptations:

  • we take our blessings for granted and drift into a "ho-hum" sort of existence; or,
  • work ourselves into an early grave by striving compulsively about things that don't matter; or,
  • sink into depression and discouragement when we fail to measure up to unrealistic expectations (ours or those of others).

That's not what God wants for any of us. Better yet, His path away from those traps leads to a life that is awesome! You could say, His plan is to develop spectacular beauty within us, like the Monarch butterfly at the top of this page. And we will get there... even if we feel more like a Monarch caterpillar at the moment.

The Mission

Our biggest battles are not how to organize a messy home or what to do to fight chronic illness. They're not about how to bring in more money to make ends meet, or how to rekindle passion in our marriages and get our children to obey without yelling. (All of these are topics I'll be covering here.)

Our greatest need as women is three-fold:

  • enter into rest that is offered in Jesus Christ;
  • enjoy abundant LIFE instead of obsessing over unfinished laundry while missing out on  fleeting moments when precious souls share our homes; and,
  • fully develop the gifts and potential God has placed within each of us.

If you're on the hamster wheel of perfectionism, those goals might seem out of reach. I get it. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt. But whether you're on top of the world or struggling in a lonely place, things can be better, so much better! I promise. No, God promises!

Do You Need A Smarter Mom?

My ideal readers fall into one of several categories:

  • She is a non-Christian who is curious about what the Bible has to say about health, relationships, and business.
  • She is a Christian who wants a Biblical basis for solving problems, or just wants to know God better.
  • She is a mom who needs help with time management: she is worn out from trying to do too much; she may feel like a stranger in her own family; she may be drowning in clutter; she may battle voices in her head that scream at her all the reasons she is a failure (“Your house is a mess, your children never listen to you, you can’t do anything right!”); she may be frustrated by advice like, “Start your day earlier,” and “Delegate.”
  • She is a wife who needs encouragement because she loves her husband — at least, she wants to love him: she may wonder what happened to the fun girl her husband married; she may long for deeper intimacy or connection; she may struggle with emotional baggage from an abusive childhood; she may feel unloved or unappreciated; she may be wrestling with how to love a man who has betrayed her trust. She is a mom or soon-to-be mom who is looking for a reference of biblical parenting that includes scientific research for nutrition and brain health (especially for Asperger’s, autism, ADD, Down Syndrome).
  • She is dealing with chronic health issues like Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Multiple Sclerosis, and others that threaten to steal her time and relationships: she may have tried numerous diets and protocols to help clear up her digestive issues, yeast infections, skin rashes and moodiness (the Paleo diet, the Anti-candida diet, the Gluten-Free diet, the Real Food diet, Trim Healthy Mama, The South Beach diet, the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, the GAPS diet, the Nourishing Traditions diet, Intuitive Eating, Eating for Heat, The Maker’s Diet, Eat for Life Diet, juice fasts, coffee enemas, parasite cleanses, Candida cleanses)… and while some of these interventions seemed like they helped for a time, she still doesn't feel like herself.
  • She may battle depression or anxiety: dark thoughts may plague her; she may sense a deep emptiness inside; she may have a hard time believing God is good and that He loves her, because of circumstances that don't measure up or unspeakable evil that she has known; she may feel forsaken or judged; she may wonder why she doesn't like being around people like she used to; she may wonder why the “Just Stop It” advice that seems to work for others, doesn’t work for her (hint: it’s because she is being poisoned by chronic environmental or diet exposures); she may have lost the joy of her salvation (or maybe she has never experienced it in the first place).
  • She is a woman who struggles with her weight: yo-yo dieting and compulsive eating habits have created a love-hate relationship with food. When she is “good” on her diet, she’s on top of the world, but when she “cheats” her emotions spiral into self-loathing in a hurry.
  • She needs to figure out a way to make more money while still being the primary caregiver at home:  she may be panicking over monthly bills that seem to only go up; she may be frustrated and scared by financial pressures that won’t just go away; she may be afraid to look at her bank account balance.

Moms are more stressed out than ever before and it's taking a toll on their health, their relationships and their happiness. ~ Fox News

If any of this sounds familiar, take heart. The children of Israel spent 40 years wandering in the desert, but that was because of God’s judgment on unbelief. The journey to the Promised Land could have been made in eleven days (Deut. 1:2).

The most important part of becoming A Smarter Mom is developing a SMARTER mindset, the mindset that is grounded in being sober, appreciative, and acting in faith that God can solve all of my problems … and that He wants to. (My passion for this is explained by my story.)

It’s a mindset that recognizes people are more important than “priority lists,” connecting is more satisfying than chocolate (really!), and peace is a result of how we face trials, not the absence of them.

Every year there are gazillions of new diet books on the market telling you how to lose weight, reverse diabetes, IBS, Crohns, Candida, autism, learning disabilities, depression, and a host of other ailments for which the medical community has only offered symptom-masking pharmaceuticals and a "high fiber" diet.

Have you ever spent thousands of dollars on supplements and healing protocols, only to find that they made you worse? I have.

We don't need another diet book or checklist.

We don't need to "get up earlier" or "be more productive."

We need a simple strategy for developing a biblical lifestyle, replacing our old habits that have sabotaged our health, family, and productivity goals with a new attitude and a new way of life.

  • For health issues, there is a roadmap of simple habits that support the body’s natural detoxifying and hormone-balancing systems.
  • For all our relationships, biblical principles will help us reconnect with our families.
  • For home management, systems provide the margin we desperately need, while embracing Biblical truth will enable us to enter God’s promised rest.
  • Financial security can be ours as we learn to create multiple streams of honest income, by helping other people get what they want and need.

The thing about a biblical lifestyle is that, even for someone who is not a believer, the principles for healthy living through laid out in the Bible will still work.

My goal for what I write is to encourage women to

  • embrace every messy season of life;
  • exercise discernment to find the 20% change that improves results by 80% (the Pareto Principle); and,
  • enjoy developing themselves and their families for God’s glory.

Whether you need help for getting more rest, establishing healthy habits, enjoying your children, rekindling the love in your marriage, or success in business, it all starts with winning the battle for your mind.

Overcoming the devil's lies with the enabling grace that is offered us through Christ takes the right community and support. And that's exactly what we are about at A Smarter Mom: pointing you towards the best tools and resources, helping you implement them for lasting change, and reminding you of God's promises and what is possible.
